Her Fearful Symmetry

Finished reading Audrey Niffenegger's Her Fearful Symmetry. She's the same author who wrote the 'The Time Traveler's Wife'.

..... Her Fearful Symmetry a haunting tale about the complications of love, identity, and sibling rivalry. The novel opens with the death of Elspeth Noblin, who bequeaths her London flat and its contents to the twin daughters of her estranged twin sister back in Chicago. These 20-year-old dilettantes, Julie and Valentina, move to London, eager to try on a new experience like one of their obsessively matched outfits. Historic Highgate Cemetery, which borders Elspeth's home, serves as an inspired setting as the twins become entwined in the lives of their neighbors: Elspeth's former lover, Robert; Martin, an agoraphobic crossword-puzzle creator; and the ethereal Elspeth herself, struggling to adjust to the afterlife. Niffenegger brings these quirky, troubled characters to marvelous life, but readers may need their own supernatural suspension of disbelief as the story winds to its twisty conclusion...

Home Made Thin Crust Hawaiian Pizza

Decided to make Thin Crust Pizza for lunch instead of Hainanese Chicken Rice..
Save the chicken rice for dinner..heheheh

A simple recipe.. though Mr Ong say the ingredients not spread out evenly... and the crust abit too thick though its thin..something like skinny fat.... and not enough cheese for him...

haahha.. he rate only 6/10.. but i give myself a 7/10
Overall still not too bad lar..hehehe

Cooking

Since i have more time here, cooking for Mr Ong is kinda a daily must do... i do not have a natural flare in cooking, but i do know how to follow search on the internet for recipes... with youtube, food blogs etc, providing simple to understand instructions and even videos to guide you and show u the process.. all u need is patience, time (which i have alot now), good songs (i like to listen to chill-jazz music to help lift my mood cuz if u are in gd mood, ur food will turn out well!!), the willingness to experiment and of cuz love, cuz u are afterall cooking for ur love ones... the food will somehow be nice!!!

There are alot food that i'll cook...for a start, i did the English Style of Fish and Chips for Mr Ong as lunch.
The secret lies in the Beer Batter, which i found online is very good. Though the wrong kind of fish was used, which resulted in a bit of fishy taste and the Fish is abit dark. At least i still made a decent meal for Mr Ong.. not bad for the first attempt i wld say. oh yeah the recipe for the beer batter was too much so i end up frying some mushrooms for him, which was good too...

i feel satisfaction fr the completion of the food..as the chips are peel and sliced fr real potatoes and not frozen-read-cut fries + the batter was done from scratch. if next time got time will do the tar tar sauce myself...

and im very touched by Mr Ong for not complaining its awful to eat and finish everything...hheehhee

i'm starting to craving for SG food, so again i found an online recipe for Hainanese Chicken Rice, going to try tmrw.... poor Mr Ong going to endure my cooking...hheheh

I have a list of ever-growing recipes that i'm going to experiment and hopefully it will turn out good

Homesick....not....

There are some people when they travel overseas, they will be homesick, no matter how short or long the duration might be... on the other hand, there are some people, who will not be homesick, no matter how long they are away...

Since young, i have been the 2nd type, no matter how long or short my overseas trip are, I've never been homesick... not that i don't care about what is going on back home. its just that subconsciously, i know that everything and everyone at home will be fine. or is it i really don't care about whats happening back home and only care for myself?? some ppl call it independence and i would like to tink it that way too.. in this sense i tink im more like mummy...

Its getting more and more frustrating to having to call home in the morning here (so that its night time over in SG) to speak to him. The rest still okay, just him. Somehow, he is the only one that i cant seem to not worry... i just dont understand what is wrong with him.. or perhaps i know what is wrong with him... depression is something that one wld deny it...even if one knows it.. even if one declares and suspects they have depression, thats nothing they can do about it.. i tink its to do with inbalance of  hormones and stuff... but they can get help and be positive about things and not be negative.. they can recover, but that depends if they want to or just live in a world of denial and keeps blaming everyone but themselves.... we gave him time, we tried the soft and even the hard approach, but nothing seems to work....

But if i dun call back, he will only get worse, worry for nothing.. if i call back, it does not seem to help him either...

nevertheless, i hope to see the day he pull himself back together again...living his life the way he shld..

What is hypertension? (aka high blood pressure)

Q:What is Hypertension?
A: Hypertension, often called high blood pressure, occure when blood moving through your arteries places too much force afainst the artery walls. Peopls are told they have high blood pressure if their blood pressure readings are repeatedly above normal for a long time. The measure of a high blood pressure reading is greater than or equal to 140/90.

Q: How does it occur?
A: in 90-95% of cases, the cause of high blood pressure is UNKNOWN
In 5-10%, high blood pressure is a symptom of some other health problem.
Some people are at greater risk than others for having high blood pressure. Risk factors include:
- pre-hypertension, or higher than normal blood pressure (120-139/ 80-89)
- family history of high blood pressure
- being overweight
- older adults
- too much alcohol intake
- African-American descent
- diabetes
- having had pre-eclampsia while pregnant
- in some women use of oral contraceptive or "the pill"
- some over the counter drug can increase blood pressure

Q: What are the symptoms?
A: High blood pressure most often has no symptoms; it is a "Silent" disease. It can go without being found untill it has caused some damage to the body. The following symptoms may be produced by extreme high blood pressure, but they also frequently occur for other reasons. These symptoms are:

- Blurred vision
- Feeling dizzy
- A nosebleed
- Morning headache at the back of the head

Q: How is it treated?
A: Treatment for high blood pressure includes:

Keep track of your blood pressure at home helps your doctor to measure how severe your high blood pressure is and if treatment is working. Your doctor can teach you ow to measure your blood pressure at home
- Office visits are needed so that your doctor can measure your blood pressure, adjust your treatment as needed, and check for side effects fr your blood pressure pills

High blood pressure that is not controlled can cause a heart attack, stork, heart failure and kidney failure. Other factors that may hasten problems incluse smoking, diabetes and high cholesterol. THe goals if treatment of high blood pressure are first to lower your blood pressure to a level as near as normal possible. Also to reduce the risk of getting other health problems, your doctor may suggest changing your lifestyle ad taking blood pressure pills.

Q: How can I take care of myself?
A: Some things you can do for yourself to improve your control of high blood pressure include:
-
Lifestyle changes: Stop working, reduce sodium intake, Weight loss, Exercise, Reduce alcohol consumption.
- Medication: There are a wide variety of pills available to treat high blood pressure.
Some include:
-
Diuretics (water pills): are often the first choice. They help the body to get rid of excess water and salt
- Beta Blockers: are pills that cause the heart to beat more slowly and relax the blood vessels.
- ACE Inhibitors, Calcium Channel Blockers, Angiotensin Receptors Blockers ad Alpha Blockers are pills that relaxes the blood vessels

Above info maintained by the UMHS Clinical Care Guidelines Committee, for Patient Education Handout.

After the preliminary checkup, my heart is as strong as a bull, lungs as healthy as a dolphin, liver and kidney fine too...only prob is the high blood pressure, so they have started me on some pills, cant rem the name cuz its too long. But is water pills as per above, to help remove excess water and salt..

So have to start on the pills and then go back for review in 3 weeks time...

Like Mr Ong say, its just high blood pressure... I'll be fine... =)
