Glasgow, Scotland

In my line, i meet lots of ppl.. some are nice, some are nasty.. some u just hate the sight of them, some u just click with them and can spend ur time talking to them endlessly...
And today i met this old couple who are from Glasgow,Scotland. As Scotland is winter now, they took a long holiday in Australia for 5 weeks.. finally stopping over in Singapore for four days before handing back... as they gym back home, they decided to take a look to see how are our gyms.. the first word that came out from their mouth were "impressive!!"

The reason why they said impressive its because their gym back home was just abt the size of our 4-room hdb flat..guess back in UK as land is expensive.. everything is built on a smaller scale.. they were even impressed as Carrefour is huge!!
The amazing part is that, I cld not have guess what is their age... John is 73 tis yr!! His wife, Mully is abt 70 yrs old.. and trust me..they look younger then their age...they looked like they are in their 60s.. wats more impressive is that John has completed a few ironman marathons.. im rather ashamed as i even have not completed a half marathon...hahaha
They asked if i have ever been to Europe, i said im planning to go back-packing in Scotland... and they asked me what mode of transport ill be using... i mentioned biking.. and they say its not a very wise thing to do...they recommended the NATIONAL EXPRESS COACH.. its affordable and better..hahah i wonder how much will that cost...
They asked me to include Glasgow as part of the itinery as it has many great views...mayb i shld just do that.. in Glasgow, they have a stadium, which held the Curling World Champs back in 2000...it will be fun if i cld try out curling again...hehehe who knows Singapore might include that...hahahah ill be the first one to apply for the sport!!
Another interesting fact i found out from them is that... if any of the merchants are caught using pounds as a measuring unit, they wld be fine!! Only KG can be used... according to them, pounds are considered old school...muahah... so interesting...
A pity i did not get their address... if not ill pay them a visit if i were to make it there....=)

Happy Bday To U~~~

This post is dedicated to my mummy as tml is her b-day...tks for all the things u have done for the family... i know sometimes i'm very rude...heheh.. i know u meant well...even though when u r naggy....i love the soups u make....:P
We had an early celebration with her yest at aunt Jenny's place... we had a big feast of seafood along with curry chicken and other delicious dishes... it was a surprise party.. i contacted our other relatives to gather at aunt Jenny's place... then i 'lied' to mummy that aunt Jenny ask us to have dinner at her place cuz its her turn to invite us to her place for CNY gathering... so not suspecting anything, mummy came to the party!! hehehe
I aso bought a cake for mummy... at the nursery she work, almost every other day there will be at least 1 kid's bday...almost every other day she will get to eat the cake... but of cuz nothing beats to celebrate her own bday, blowing out the candles after everyone finish singing the bday song... make some wishes and cut the cake...:)

No prizes for guessing mummy's age...hehehe... a woman's age is secret...shssss

smile till so happy cant see her eyes liao...muahahah

blow blow blow...i wish i wish i wish~~~

Ouch!

Ouch is a word that we often used to express sudden pain. And yes, i used this word today!
After a few days of CNY celebration, i returned to work.. and guess wat within the 1st 2 hrs of work, i fell and sprain my ankle... didnt realise that my left shoelace came off, i happily stepped on it and fell onto the ground, wat a boo boo..ahaha... it happened very fast. At that moment of time, i felt my ankle twisted but bounced back to its original position... its was painless for the 1st few seconds.. afterwhich i felt pain at my ankle... so i sat on the floor for a few mins.. managed to to overcome my shock and began to stand up and walk back to my table... i asked for help from my colleagues to get ice for me.. quickly but carefully i managed to take my shoes and socks, elevated my ankle onto the table and iced it..hahaha thats the gd thing abt working in a gym, everyone is equip with first aid knowledge... lucky i immediately iced it to prevent the swell from growing...
The last time i sprain the same ankle was 7 yrs ago at my vb youth team training.. somebody landed on my ankle..hahah i still rem Feli had to piggy me back home....tks babe!! Immediately my ankle swell like help...instant pig trotters!! i still rem i cld not walk for 2 whole days...
Lucky this time round the sprain was a light one.. i still managed to survived till i finish work at 7pm.. still able to walk around...
Special thanks to Moobash from Core Concepts- Physiotherapy Centre. The centre has a sub branch in our gym to provide consultation and physiotherapy for our members...
Moobash did a check for my ankle and was relieve that i just have a minor sprain on my front and back ligaments of my ankle.. with the immediate icing and cuz my ligaments are still 'mobile', there wasnt much swelling and i cld still walk.. phew~~
Her instructions are just to elevate it.. rest it, ice it and occassion add pressure to it with ice... She also did a ultra sound scan for my ankle. The purpose is to further relieve the pain and to prevent any swelling... and aso soem simple exercises to help it recover faster.. tink i shld be the shoelace stopper liao..hahaha
In the 30 mins consultation, i learnt a few things which is very important as well... for example, she notice that i have a corn on my right sole towards the side.. which represent the signs of flat feet due to the pressure of overloading my body weight to one side... she will be recommending me to this guy, who will be helping me to picked the right in-sole for my shoes...tis is to further prevent me from future complications which might follow as age catches up with me, especially if i want to pick up running again...
muaahahaha... she also mentioned that especially for women, at least 2 days before our actual menstrual cycle, we shld avoid strenuous exercise cuz, as our body will start to release RELAXIN, which will further relax the ligaments which makes us more prone to injuring ourselves.. after our menstrual cycle starts, we can start working out again..
oh yeah, she aso mentioned that we shld not see the 'sin seng' when we have any sprains as it will further encourage the swell.. but if its a dislocation den the 'sing seng' cld help to put it back... and incase if u have a dislocation and cld not have immediate medical attention.. just lie on the bed or table, and let the arm drop free from the bed.. the gravity cld help to put back the dislocation, but of cuz it will not always work as it depends on alot of factors.. so if there is a dislocation.. head to the A&E immediately!!
I'll be seeing her this fri again to see how my ankle is doing...i shld be ready to engage full exercise in a weeks time.. oh at the same time, she will also be advising my right shoulder, as i have partial dislocation on my right shoulders pretty often yrs back, she will be helping me to 're-hab'...
I wld not say my sprain is 'sway' as we are only started the new oink oink yr.. i shld be thankful, as the sprain is not that bad, at least i cld still walk and my ankle did not become pigs trotters, and i have tml off..so i cld rest it.. and with all the precious information i gotten, somemore without having to pay.. its a blessing in disguise!!
of cuz ill not want to sprain it again....hehehee....;)

See my ankles looks like never sprain right..hahah

Biggest Winners!!

Guess who are the big winners during CNY?? Kids!! That's right. They are the one who truly benefit from this joyous occassion. All they need to do is just to take 2 oranges, give their bestest smile, say "Gong Xi Fa Cai" and they will be given an ang bao.. oh yeah, u dun have to tell them who to look for. They will come looking for you, as long as u r married... hahaha..

Also not forgetting that they have long breaks away fr sch so they cld stay up later and the goodies and drinks that they can get to eat...

Oh yeah, not forgetting playing black jack. Now adays these 'big kids' will start to jio each other to play black jack. Of cuz they will ask one of the adults to be the banker so that they can win your money!! When i asked one of my nieces where she get her capital from, she said that she saved up from her pocket money so that she can gamble and earn more money to put in her piggy bank!! Oh mind, they really know how their maths!!

Well, since its once a yr, my cousin, Mandy and myself took turn to be the banker... so that these 'big kids' can earn some extra allowance....of cuz we limit them to maximum 20cent.

Evidence that the kids were having fun winning from the banker:

Not forgetting that another popular game played during this festive season is the mahjong!!
Evidence of the 'big kids' playing mahjong!! OMG!!!

This only proves one thing. Kids are getting smarter and smarter each generation. Or shld i say they progress faster and faster!! At least they are not additive to it. Its only once a yr and for the fun of it!!.. with all the ang baos, goodies to eat, no sch and extra earnings from games, aren't they the biggest winners???

Gong Xi Fa Cai~~

Gong Xi Gong Xi.. may all my loved ones & frens have e bestest ooi ooi yr ahead!!! and collect as many ang baos as u can!!

I'm not someone who favours CNY alot... maybe due to the fact that ill see alot of my relatives who will ask the same set of questions yr after yr... not tat i dun want to see them, just dun like the questions they ask..ahhaa i know its their way of showing concern..but just dun like lor..heheh

what i do like abt cny is that i get to meet up with my relatives who i only see during family gatherings and big occassions.. and not forgeting my friends froms secondary and poly!! its always fun to meet up with them again and talk c**k sing song play mahjong and catch up the good old times... its also a time where we update each other abt ourselves, find out interesting happenings in each other lives.. there always bound to be gd news from at least one of them!!

i look forward to the gatherings and of cuz to my laoshi's place.. i missed his bday gathering last yr so by hook or by crook i will visit him tis yr..tats my promise to him....but no more pineapple tarts for him liao...how?? heheheheh

Valentine's Day

As the tittle suggest, Saint Valentine's Day or Valentine's Day is on Februray 14 It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending V-day cards, candy, or donations to charities, often anonymously. It is very common to present flowers on Valentine's Day. The holiday is named after two men, both Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

*************************************************************************************
DO YOU KNOW??
Thanks to a concentrated marketing effort, Valentine's Day has emerged in Japan and Korea as a day on which women, and less commonly men, give candy, chocolate or flowers to people they like. This has become an obligation for many women. Those who work in offices end up giving chocolates to all their male co-workers, sometimes at significant personal expense. This chocolate is known as giri-choko (義理チョコ), in Japan, from the words giri ("obligation") and choko, a common short version of chokorēto (チョコレート), meaning "chocolate". This contrasts with honmei-choko, which is given to a person someone loves or has a strong relationship with. Friends, especially girls, exchange chocolate that is referred to as tomo-choko (友チョコ); tomo means "friend" in Japanese.

By a further marketing effort, a reciprocal day called White has emerged. On March 14, men are expected to return the favour to those who gave them chocolates on Valentine's Day. Many men, however, give only to their girlfriends. Originally, the return gift was supposed to be white chocolate or marshmallows; hence "White Day". However, men have taken the name to a different meaning and lingerie has become a common gift.
In Korea, there is an additional Black Day on April 14, when males who did not receive anything for Valentine's Day gather together to eatJajangmyun (Chinese-style noodles in black sauce). In South Korea, there is also Pepero, celebrated on November 11, during which young couples give each other romantic gifts.
In Chinese, there is a similar counterpart of the Valentine's Day. It is called 'The Night of the Sevens', on the 7th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar.

*************************************************************************************

In Singapore on this special day, you see everyone on the street become extra loving to their partners, every other woman will be carrying her favourite bouquet of flowers, have dinner at a restaurant, wearing a big grin on her face throughout the night. U think the women will be the happiest??
Nah, its the restaurants owners and florist!! The restaurants will be booked way inadvance for this occassion. Flowers for this occasion cost a bomb. Each stalk of rose can cost up to $15. Of cuz the cost also depend on the no of stalks u buy, is it roses, tuplis, daisy or carnations (haha) , the wrapping and how early you booked in advance. The no of stalks u give represent different meanings as well....

I personally feel that its abit waste of money to buy flowers on this day, why not spend tat same amt of money on something else more pratical?? Sure, i'll like to recieve some flowers, but the same bouquet of flowers will cost at least 4-5 times more on v-day... haha... well different ppl has different views lar..heheh

As this day becomes more and more commercialised, will the real purpose of V-day be forgotten?? as the living standard increases, will it become too materialistic???
Do u measure love in terms of how valuable the presents u recieve?? or will tis special day remind you how you and your partner has come a long way; the ups and downs you go thru; how u complete each other?? i guess it means different things to you and me...

And here's wishing everyone I know a HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!! May you and ur beloved one(s) spent this magical night together with happiness, love, joys and laughters... may the cupids shoot their arrows correctly too.....

Last but not least, a special shoutout to uncle dar dar in UK:

"HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY. I MISS YOU AND I LOVE YOU!!!!!"
I'll cut short the mushy stuff lar..hehehe..... take care of yourself!!! muaacks muaacks...

Communication....

The word 'communication' when checked in the dictionary means "a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior ;also exchange of information which leads to personal rapport"

As we grow older.. did we somehow forget how to communicate?? especially with our parents...
Since young, we used to tell our our parents hows was our day at sch.. wat were the interesting incidents that happened, who were the interesting ppl we met in school... and they in return listen to us ... but did we ask them how was their day at work??

Parents always wanted the best for their children. They are the ones who will care for you no matter what happens and always wanted the best for you... for all the sacrifices that they made for us, what did they want in return?? Simply for us to be safe, have adequate education, be someone useful, and eventually have a family on our own..... is it selfish of us to think that its their responsiblity to care for us??

How do you try to communicate with ur parents?? By showering them with gifts?? or by listening what they have to say after a hard day at work? or by sharing the family load with them?? by doing all this, will it be enough??

When was the last time you communicate with your parents?? was it real communication??

OFF DAY = Children's Cancer Foundation + Temple??

As the title suggest, today is my off day... typically on my off day, i'll slp in, give myself some time to catch up on my slp..ehhe den just slack away doing nothing..heheh... however, today is slightly different, i woke up around the same time, freshen up myself went out for my first appt of the day.

First stop was to the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF) to meet up with the in-charge. As one of my resolution this is yr is to contribute back to the society, i decided to become a volunteer at CCF. I went thru a round of interview, to let them review if i'm suitable for the post i applied for. Btw i applied for the Play Personnel position. It will requires me to engage children with cancer in structured play activities at the hospital ward, outpatient clinic or Family Support Centre. Help to clean toys, prepare art & craft activities and/or run group activities. During the process, i was given a brief orientation on what i will expect as a volunteer. I also learnt a few things:

(1) There is no known cause for most childhood cancer.
95% of the cancer in children occur spontaneously. Since the triggers of most childhood cancers are unknown, preventive measures are limited. Thus far, studies suggest that there is nothing a child or parent did to induce cancer, and therefore, should avoid doing in order to prevent cancer.

(2) Cancer is not contagious.
Cancer cannot be spread from one child to another. Children with cancer are isolated as children with cancer has low immunity and are vulnerable to infections.

(3) Childhood cancers are not death sentences.
Most childhood cancers are curable. For example, in Acute Lymphoblastic Luekaemia, which is a common form of Leukaeium in Sngapore, 3 in 4 children will be cured with chemotherapy alone. A successful cure depends on recieving the current-day standard therapy, a positive attitude and determination to overcome cancer.

(4) Children with cancer can still lead a normal childhood.
Many children return to normal school life after treatment. In other cases, the children and their families adapt and modify their lifestyle to achieve normalcy. This becomes much easier with care, understanding and suipport from family, teachers, friends and other caregivers.

(5) Common types of Childhood Cancer
There are more than 100 different types of childhood cancers that can happen in different parts of the body. The most common type in Singapore is Leukaemia, which is cancer of the blood; where white blood cells grow abnormally and invade other tissues and organs via the bloodstream. These white cells crowd out and slow the production of healthy blood cells.
Other common childhood cancers includes Brain Tumours & Lymphoma.

(6) Modes of Treatment
The most common mode of treatment for these kids are Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy & Bone Marrow Transplant.

(7) Psychological & Social Impact of Childhood Cancer
As the children undergo treatment, they experience the following:
- stress & behaviour changes: - Disruption to school

- Anxiety over long-term side effects of illness & treatment
- Impact on siblings
- Coping with marital strain & employment issues (this is applicable to their parents)

all information from pt 1-7 are quoted from CCF. It is provided for educational purposes only and is not intended for nor engaged in rendering medical advice or professional services. The information provided should not be used for diagnosing or treating a health problem or disease. It is not a subsitute for professional care.

Btw, CCF is a non-profit organisation that aims to improve the quality of lives of caner-stricken children and their familys through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being.

After the orientation, i strongly hope that everyone can treat these little fighters with respect. be sensitive about their emotions and physical well-being. The last thing they want from us is sympathy & alienation. All they want is a chance to fight on and lead a normal childhood...

I look forward my first day with the kids after CNY.
Eh, anyone wants to join me?? :) if you do, let me know...

2nd appt of the day was a trip to the "Si Ma Lu Kwang Ying Temple". Use to go there on a monthly basis. But recently stopped going altogether. Today went pray for my family's safety and health. Make the usual donation & i even got a "qian" for my family. It's lot no.31. It meant that, everything will be good and be patient, den success will follow. Family will be safe. Thats exactly what i prayed for!! haha..well u might tink tat i'm being superstitious, but i'm not! Sometimes its good to hear things that are good, so it makes your day. Take all the interpretations with a pinch of salt and don't be obssessed abt it.

That's how i spend my morning and early afternoon. Meaningful~~

When i fall in love....~~ Chris Botti

As the tittle suggest, "When I Fall In Love" is a world known love song many are familar with... there are many versions of how the songs are sang or played... i particularly love it when its played by Chris Botti.. A little background on who he is, he's a trumpeter and composer; born in Portland, Oregon. His music style is describle as smooth jazz during his early stage of career. Though still featuring heavy contributions from pop music singers, Botti's more recent albums have found him exploring more traditional jazz territory, with lush orchestral arrangements.

Botti has also performed or recorded with artists such as Sting, Frank Sinatra, Stven Tyler, The Blue Nile, Joash Groban, Michael Buble, Paula Cole etc..

How did I know of this cute trumpeter?? I once watch an episode of the Oprah Winfrey show where 3 couples were picked and she sponsored their wedding expenses! This amazing woman then single handedly planned each of the couple's wedding reception & left them with an unforgetable night. For 1 of the couple, she hired Chris Botti to play "When I Fall In Love" as the couple's first dance... everyone was mesmerrized by his song.... i guess for a moment everyone cld feel the love btw the couple....

Since his career started in 1995, he has composed/produced 9 albums...i've gotten one of the albums tittled "When I Fall In Love". Its his 8th album..and i'm loving it!!! His songs are really very good "chill out" songs... very different from the usual pop/rock songs i listen to ..heheh...am i getting old or wat?? Guess a change of music style helps in one way or another...

i miss sch life...

Due to work requirement, i was at Sentosa today for a rdshow.. the last time there was with uncle dar dar at his annual coy family day. He was the organiser for the "amazing race" game. I help out too..heheheheee.. by placing the clues and aso keep track of time... was a fun day as we even went play the go kart after that...

Anyway, was there since morning till abt 5pm. The event was NTU's annual Surf & Ride event. Seeing the students participate in various activities made me miss school life so much..heheehhee..back in sch i was just like them, no need to worry abt work or money..no money dun go out lor...there's always alot of things to do without spending money... i was always having vb or canoepolo training every other day... life was carefree & fulfilling to me back then... On days if i was feelling not focus, i cld botang certain lectures with some buddies, head to the reservoir to relac & eat our fav rum & rasin ice-cream...
But ever since starting to work, i cant botang work wor.. & due to the fact that im starting to work, i need to work to feed myself... in other words i'm on my own, without the pocket money given by daddy or mummy. Its gd as i've learnt to be independent & self-reliant. But still there is a part of me that wish tat i cld stop time & forever stay in my poly yrs..hehehe

Was aso chatting with my colleague earlier on abt her studies. Congrats to her for being the top saleswoman of 2006. She droped out of poly yr 1 after taking part time for 2 semester. Seeing the NTU students living a carefree life, she has a sudden urge to cont her studies. I asked her what is stopping her fr doing so, she mentioned that its not easy to go back into studying again once u started working. I somehow agreed with her. But with the amt of money she's earning, she can easily go into full-time studies for 3 yrs, while doing some part-time job for some allowance. She might be considering that. In any case, i wished her all the best. She knows what is gd for her!!

As for myself, will i further my studies?? I dun tink so in the near future as tats not my top priority right now...i dun know if i need it and im not sure wat to study...so making money is more pratical...=)

Oh yeah, and i miss the sun, sea and the beach!! comparing to how i look 3 yrs back, im so fair now tat ppls started to comment tat they prefer me tann!! aiyah, antoher thing i missed most...tanning!! back in the sch days i tann so regularly that now, any additional time i haf for myself is for my family or my loved ones....besides when i haf time, its night time liao...cant moon tann lei..hahaha

When the baby comes along, more shopping to be done liao..heheheh

Volleyball....Pei Dao Sec... a legendary...

Volleyball...
a sport which brought me tears, joys, laughter, pain, bruises, muscle soreness, injuries...
a sport which taught me discipline, determination, hardwork, confidence, leadership, sportsmanship...
a sport which earn me glory, victory, respect...
a sport which made me some friends for life...
a sport which gave me a mentor i'll nv forget...
a sport which gave me the best 4 yrs of secondary school life in Pei Dao...
a sport which gave me memories which are priceless....

Volleyball was once a big part of my life.. note that i use "was" as i stopped playing volleyball competitively 3yrs back. All in all, i played vb competitively for 7yrs.. the first 4 yrs are the most memorable. Tks to my mentor, Mr. Lim Ba Seng, one of the best vb coach in sg (he was originally training the track & field team. But was tasked to form a vb team in Peidao. Within the first yr, he train a team of elite players who rule the vb world for many yrs...no one dunno who he is... no one dunno who the Peidao players are...till today, we are still legendary... & i'm proud to be in it), I started from someone who knew nuts abt vb to a representative in the youth team. Through hardwork with my then team mates, winning was sweeter than anything in the world. But sad to say, the closest we ever won was a silver medal in the finals.

The last 3 yrs of my competitive vb "career", i represented Temasek Polyechnic... very different feeling when you got a different team of team mates, winning was still sweet with them, but sad to say again, the closest we ever won was a silver medal in the finals...

i recieved a sms this morning from one of my senior "recruiting" all peidao vb players back to play once again!! Training will start after cny and first competition wld be the local open tournament which most likely will be happening in Aug later this yr.

To me, winning is still important, but its not on top of my list... playing once again for Peidao, showcase the skills we have (although most of us will be quite dusty?? heheh), having the Peidao spirit, singing our team song, is something which i haf been hoping...

I look forward to putting on my Peidao jersey once again...playing with my fellow team mates again... creating more great, priceless memories for life....
